NEST
Nurturing the Emergence of Student Therapists
‘NEST’ is a space for emerging and trainee therapists to support and resource each other.
It is peer led and seeks to draw from the trust and connection developed amongst colleagues who together share a common experience.
During my training, I had lots of questions emerging. Some of these questions were about my experience of placement, other questions related to a what the next steps might be…more training? …Private Practice…work for an organisation? I also had larger questions about the therapeutic process itself – what it all meant and how I was understanding it?
While I brought these questions to supervision and found really useful insights, I still felt that there was a missing piece.
To me this missing piece was a space where I could be with other students who I had come to trust and connect with given our shared experience. Yes, we still had classes, but I recognised that many of the questions I held were still just that – being held, by me. Hence this idea and now this offering.
It’s not supervision. So what is it? My sense is that it’s a group of therapists (in training and early career) and students coming together as peers to support and resource each other with the help of a coordinated set of learning experiences.
An occasional online gathering for personal and collective meaning-making. A space to bring questions, ideas, wonderings to the group that seeks to facilitate deeper learning and insights for all. Key insights, resources named and other relevant information from the gatherings will be collated and made available.
Curated content designed to bring you up to speed with the latest insights about the world of therapy, focused on unit areas being studied. Content will provide perspectives on:
A space to coordinate and organise Therapeutic Practice sessions amongst the student cohort, providing rich feedback to develop and grow as a practitioner.
Training to be a therapist and beginning your care can be lonely and daunting. Having a space of safety where you can feel supported to ask questions, gain critical knowledge and practice your emerging skills is of enormous value.
